1. How to change the homepage?

Double click on the Internet Explorer icon. Go to Tools at the top and click on Internet Options. Under the General tab the homepage is listed first. Type in the address you would like to use for your homepage and then click OK at the bottom of the screen.

2. Unable to browse vs. unable to connect to the internet?

If the computer dials out and establishes a connection, but the browser shows "Page cannot be displayed" then you are unable to browse. If the computer is unable to establish a connection and the browser shows "Page cannot be displayed" then you are unable to connect. Being unable to browse is usually a communication problem, contact Datastar for further assistance.

3. Error: no dial tone?

Two different things could cause this. First, it could be a phone line problem. Try plugging the line into a working phone and see if you get a dial tone. Second, it could be a bad modem. If the modem has two RJ11 slots, plug a cord from the wall outlet into the modem on the side that says line. Plug a phone into the side of the modem that says phone. Pick up the receiver and listen while you try to connect to the internet. If the modem doesn’t dial out and make sounds like a fax machine, then the modem needs to be replaced.

4. Error: the computer you are dialing into is either not answering or unable to establish a connection?

Call our office and we can check the server to see if your attempt is registering in the log. If you are not showing up, then it could be a modem, phone line, or configuration problem. If you do register on our server, we can pinpoint the exact cause and correct the problem.

5. Error: invalid username and password?

Try to retype in the username and password. If you do no know the username or password, contact our office for assistance. Our server will log what you have entered and we can help correct the problem.
